Alex Trebek Has Second Heart Attack
Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek suffered a mild heart attack on Saturday, June 23rd and is still in Cedar-Sinai Medical Center undergoing further testing.
A statement from Sony Pictures Television said that the 71-year-old game show host is expected to fully recover. They anticipate that he will back on the job when the new season of the famous quiz show begins taping on July 29th, 2012 (a week after Alex’s 72nd birthday on July 22nd).
Alex Trebek had his first heart attack in December of 2007. It was also a mild attack and he was back on the job a month later.
Earlier this year in May, Trebek spoke to Chris Wall of Fox News on the issue of his retirement. He admitted that he was considering retiring but his friends were urging him to stick it out for 2 more years so he have a solid 30-year-run as the Jeopardy! host, famously avec moustache until 2001 and sans moustache since then. He still talks about it on the show occasionally.
Well, his health is of course more important than his hosting duties on Jeopardy! so, if the situation warrants it, we’re sure his doctors and wife will urge him to retire.
Last December, Alex had his mother, Lucille, his wife, Jean, and only American cousin in the Jeopardy! audience, and also gave a shout-out to his mother on April 13th on her upcoming 91st birthday.
