The Sensations – Let Me In
Here is a song from 1962 that reached No. 4 on the charts in March of that year. It’s listed in many One Hit Wonder charts and it is in The Billboard Hot 100 Singles for that entire year, but there is one thing about “Let Me In” that is hardly ever pointed out. It was the No. 8 song on the year end Billboard Hot 100 for 1962. “Let Me In” ranked higher than Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” which came in at No. 9 for 1962. (“The Twist” first came out in 1960 and it was No. 10 in the Top 100 for 1960).
The Sensations were a Philly doo wop group which started out in 1954. They had two hits on Atco in the 50s: “Yes Sir That’s My Baby” and “Please Mr. Disc Jockey”. The group broke up after that but regrouped in 1961. At that point they won a contract with Chess Records subsidiary label Argo. Their first hit on that label was a version of “Music, Music, Music.” A few months later, “Let Me In” was released and became their biggest success.
Here are the lyrics to “Let Me In”
Let me in, wee-ooo.
Whee-ooo, whee-ooo, hoo-whee-oo.
Whee-ooo, whee-ooo, hoo-ooo-ooo,
whee-ooo, whee-ooo.
I can see the dancin’, the silhouettes on the shade.
I hear the music, all the lovers on parade.
Open up, I wanna come in again,
I thought you were my friend.
Pitter patter of those feet
Movin’ and a-groovin’ with that beat
Jumpin’ and stompin’ on the floor.
(Lemme in ) Let me in! (Open up.) Open up!
Why won’t you open up that door? (Let me in.)
I hear music. Let me in! (music).
I wanna come in again.
Let me in (let me in), oh well I heard it just then.
I thought you were my friend.
Whee-ooo, whee-ooo, hoo-whee-oo.
Whee-ooo, whee-ooo, hoo-ooo-ooo,
Whee-ooo, Whee-ooo.
Pitter patter of those fee-ee-ee-ee-eet.
Movin’ and a-groovin’ with that be-eat.
Jumpin’ and stompin’ on the flo-o-o-o-oor.
(Lemme in.) Let me in! (Open up.) Open up!
Why don’t you open up that door? (Let me in.)
I hear music, let me in
Oh, I heard it just then. Let me in. (Let me in.)
I wanna come in again.
I thought you were my friend
Whee-ooo, whee-ooo, hoo-whee-oo.
Whee-ooo, whee-ooo, hoo-ooo-ooo,
whee-ooo,Hoo-ooo-ooo, whee-ooo.
