RIP: George Jones Video Tribute
Country music legend George Jones, perhaps best known for his hit “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” passed away on April 26 at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center at the age of 81. Many celebrities tweeted their sorrow but not all of them had the honor of actually singing with the Possum.
Dolly Parton is one who did. “My heart is absolutely broken. George Jones was my all time favorite singer and one of my favorite people in the world. My heart goes out to Nancy and the rest of his family,” Dolly tweeted.
George Jones’ troubles with alcohol are well-documented. In the video with Parton, some of Jones’ rough road is depicted. Ex-wife Tammy Wynette included some of his exploits in her autobiography “Stand by Your Man,” and in the 1981 TV movie of the same title.
And here is a video from his younger years, singing White Lightnin’ on TV.
For those who are not familiar with his songs, we think these videos show a bit more of Jones’ persona and versatility.
