Final Jeopardy: The Arts (6-7-12)
The Final Jeopardy question (6/7/2012) in the category “The Arts” was:
Formed in 1909, it performed to great acclaim in Paris, London, New York & Monte Carlo, but never in Moscow.
Ernest Nino-Murcia is our brand new champ. He won $11,599 yesterday. Today he takes on these two players: Sarah Fowlkes, from Brooklyn, NY and Chris Dunn, from Shepherdsville, KY.
Chris found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double before the first break in “Food Stuff.” He was in the lead with $2,800, $2,000 more than Ernest in second place. He bet $1,500 and he was RIGHT.
In 2005, South Korean scientists cured a few chickens of Avian flu using this, sometimes called Korean sauerkraut. show
Chris finished in the lead with $9,500. Ernest was second with $2,400 and Sarah was right behind him with $2,200.
Sarah found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Painters & Paintings.” She sailed through this category very nicely and was now in second place with $10,200. That was $1,400 less than Ernest’s lead. She bet $4,000 and she was RIGHT.
Seen here is a rare self-portrait of this American painter. show
Sarah was now in the lead but it was Chris who found the last Daily Double in “Almost Forgotten Wars.” He had $12,300, $300 more than Ernest and $6,300 less than Sarah. He bet $3,000, but did not know. He took a shot with Ireland and that was WRONG.
Warships rammed fishing boats in the 1975-76 “Cod Wars” between Britain & this usually peaceful Atlantic neighbor. show
Sarah finished in the lead with $17,800. Ernest was next with $12,000 and Chris was in third place with $8,900.
NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
We answered The Russian Ballet and wonder if that would have been acceptable written down that way.
“The Ballets Russes (The Russian Ballets) was an itinerant ballet company from Russia which performed between 1909 and 1929 in many countries. Directed by Sergei Diaghilev, it is regarded as the greatest ballet company of the 20th century. Many of its dancers originated from the Imperial Ballet of Saint Petersburg.” (wikipedia)
Chris wrote down “The Bolshoi Ballet” but bet nothing so he finished with the $8,900 he started with.
Ernest wrote down “Reds” and lost everything but a dollar.
Sarah wrote down “Bolshoi” and bet $8,000. She ended up with $9,800 and won the game. We wondered if it was the “Bolshoi Ballet” if just “Bolshoi” would have been acceptable.
So it’s so long to Ernest, but we did enjoy his “Brown Sugar” performance today in the “Colorful Lyrics from Colorful Songs” category. And we’ll be seeing Sarah tomorrow, and hopefully you too.
