Final Jeopardy: The Presidency (6-6-12)

The Final Jeopardy question (6/6/2012) in the category “The Presidency” was:

Between Jan. 1, 1841 & Dec. 31, 1850 the U.S. had this many presidents, the most in a 10-year period.

Our 3-day champ Claudia Gray has racked up total winnings of $45,202. Today she takes on these two players: Ernest Nino-Murcia, originally from Iowa City, IA and  Regina MacDowell, from Nineveh, PA.

Regina found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “International Geographic” before the first commercial break. She was in the lead with $3,400, with $1,400 more than Ernest in second place. She bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Once claimed in its entirety by Nicaragua, this coast region, named for its indigenous people, was split in 1960 by the International Court of Justice with the northern area going to Honduras.

Ernest was the one to beat at the end of the round with $5,800. Regina was second with $4,600 and Claudia was last with $4,200.

Ernest found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Born and Died: Author’s Editions.” He had $12,200, $5,600 more than Regina’s second place score. He bet $3,000, but didn’t know. He took a shot with “Christie” but that was WRONG.

Born 1894, became Hellman’s man in 1930, case solved for good 1961.

Regina found the last Daily Double in “Fats & Oils.” She had $9,000, only $3,000 less than Ernest at this point. She bet $2,000 and just plain old said she had no idea so she was WRONG.

Fats consist mainly of these compounds, defined as 1 glycerol molecule and 3 molecules of fatty acids.

Ernest finished in the lead with $13,600. Regina was next with $7,800 and Claudia was in third place with $5,000.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

The Presidents from 1/1/1841 to 12/31/1850 were: Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk, Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore (List of Presidents)

Claudia wrote down 5 and bet it all. She finished with nothing.

Regina also went with 5 and that cost her $7,800. She finished with nothing.

Ernest wrote down three, than increased that to four. He bet $2,001 so he ended up with $11,599 and became the new champ.

Both ladies got the second place prize of $2,000.
