Final Jeopardy: Awards and Prizes
The Final Jeopardy question (4/10/2012) in the category “Awards and Prizes” was:
Designed by Norwegian Gustav Vigeland, it depicts 3 naked men with their hands on each other’s shoulders.
New champ Doug Lloyd was back today after winning $12,400 yesterday. He will attempt to retain his title by defeating these new players: Maurice Ayache from La Jolla, CA and Amy Ketterling, from Minneapolis, MN.
Amy found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “I’m Ready to Play, Today.” She had the lead with $5,000, $2,800 more than Maurice and $4,400 more than Doug. She risked it all on a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT. Woo hoo!
Artist Rick Irons designed the classic red & orange flame logo of this toy brand introduced in 1968. show
Amy finished in the lead with $11,200. Maurice was next $5,000 and Doug was last with $2,000.
Amy found the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy! in “Shapely Words and Phrases.” She now had $16,000, $10,400 more than Doug in second place. She bet $6,000 and she was RIGHT again.
You get to be “mayor” if you “check in” at a certain location more than anyone else using this mobile platform. show
Doug got the second Daily Double in “1850s America.” He was in second place with $10,000 vs. Amy’s $21,600, and of course Alex encouraged him to try to catch up with Amy. Alex is pretty bold with other people’s bets! But Doug decided to bet $6,000. He thought it was tobacco and that was WRONG.
In 1855, it was reported that this crop amounted to half of all U.S. exports. show
Amy finished in the lead with a runaway $26,400. Maurice was second with $6,600 and Doug had $3,600.
Doug was then awarded a correct answer for saying ‘transatlantic telegraph line’ on this clue: “When this was completed between Newfoundland & Ireland in 1858, Queen Victoria & Pres. Buchanan traded messages.’ Alex was looking for ‘transatlantic cable.’ Doug now had $6,000.
TWO of the players got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE AWARD?
The 3 naked men, representing fraternity, are actually on the reverse of the Nobel Peace Prize medal. Alfred Nobel is on the front. The inscription on the reverse: Pro pace et fraternitate gentium, translated “For the peace and brotherhood of men.” (Nobel Prize.org)
Doug got it right and bet $1,000. He finished with $7,000.
Maurice thought it was the Olympic Medal and that cost him $5,400. He finished with $1,200.
Amy also got it right and wagered $3,600 so she won the game with $30,000, the amount Alex thought someone should have won yesterday by betting it all in Final Jeopardy. Amy did so well today, she didn’t have to bet a lot to get there.
