Final Jeopardy: Current American Companies (3-7-12)
The Final Jeopardy question (3/7/2012) in the category “Current American Companies” was:
The name of a Kansas City-based consumer product company, it’s also a term goldsmiths use to denote quality.
Three day champ, David Gard returned today to try to add some more to his $69,900 winnings. To do that, he’s got to beat these two players: Annie Lyon originally from Baltimore, MD; and Stephen Shaw from Arlington, TX.
Stephen found the Jeopardy! Daily Double in the category “People.” He just got in the lead with $4,000, $200 more than David. He bet $1,000 and said “Prince Charles.” That was WRONG. There went that lead.
Once second in line to the British throne, today he’s fourth. show
David finished in the lead with $7,400. Stephen was next with $4,400 and Annie was last with $1,600 at the end of the round.
Annie found the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy in “Movie Taglines.” She had $2,800, Stephen had twice that and David had $10,200. She bet $1,800 and she was RIGHT.
1935: “The monster demands a mate.” show
David found the last Daily Double in the category “At the Jersey Shore.” He had $17,400 now, a runaway lead for sure. He bet $2,600, for an even $20,000 and he was RIGHT.
Many of the Jersey Shore’s early inhabitants were these Indians named for a State to the south. show
David finished in the lead with $22,400. Annie was in second place with $5,400 and Stephen was last with $4,800.
Guess we don’t need to know who got Final Jeopardy! to find out who won, but let’s do it anyway.
NONE of the players knew the answer to Final Jeopardy!
Despite pretty easy Daily Doubles today, this one stumped all the players. As it pertains to goldsmiths (and silversmiths), the Free Dictionary has this as the second definition of hallmark: “A mark used in England to stamp gold and silver articles that meet established standards of purity,” and it also says at the end: “To stamp (gold and silver articles) with a mark indicating purity.” If you didn’t know that, you do now, and if you didn’t know Hallmark has its own youtube channel, you do now.
Stephen guessed “Purity” and bet $4,700 so he finished with $100.
Annie guessed “Carat” and bet $5,399. She finished with $1.00.
David guessed “Fineness” and bet $7,600, way more than we thought he would. So he dropped down to $14,800 but remained the champ. His 4-day total is $84,700.
And now it’s looking pretty good for David Gard to be in the next Tournament of Champions. Here’s what we’ve got:
Jason Keller $213,900 (9 days)
Dave Leach $98,054 (6 days)
David Gard $84,700 (4 days and still playing tomorrow)
Patrick Morrison $80,701 (3 days)
Dan McShane $62,001 (4 days)
