The Final Jeopardy question (3/19/2012) in the category “Movie Directors” was:
Upon visiting RKO in 1939 he described the studio as “the biggest electric train set any boy ever had.”
Our new champ today is Hannah Spector, who won Friday’s game with a total of $29,201. Can she break the one-day champion trend by defeating these two new players: Kyle Roll from Richmond, VA, and Alex Wright from Upper Arlington, OH.
Hannah found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Sports Illustrated: Sportsman of the Year.” It was the second to last clue on the board. She had $7,200, a $2,600 lead over Kyle in second place. She chose to play it safe and bet $600. She started to take a wild shot with Sebastian, but couldn’t come up with the last name, and it was WRONG anyway.

Alex found the first Daily Double In Double Jeopardy! It was in the category “A Year Ending In 12.” He had $6,600 by now, only $1,600 less than Hannah, still in the lead. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

Kyle had been quiet most of the game but she came to life in the geography category “Here I Am…,” running the whole thing, finishing with $16,200 and then picking up a bonus geography clue in “Potpourri.” So she just took over and finished in the lead with $17,400. Alex was in second place with $15,600 and Hannah was last with $11,000.
ALL of the players got Final Jeopardy! right.
American actor, director, writer and producer Orson Welles was born in 1915, so he was only about 24 at the time the Final Jeopardy! clue refers to. His most notable accomplishments include Caesar (1937), a groundbreaking Broadway adaption of Julius Caesar and the debut of the Mercury Theatre; The War of the Worlds (1938), the most famous broadcast in the history of radio; and Citizen Kane (1941), which many critics and scholars name as the best film of all time. This clue might have been a total stumper in the “By George” category– he was born George Orson Welles.
Hannah bet $8,000 and finished with $19,000.
Alex bet $10,000 and finished with $25,600.
Kyle bet $6,600 and was the only one to include the final “e” in Welles. She finished with $24,000. Not enough to win the game.
So now we must look to Alex Wright to break the one-day champion trend.
