Final Jeopardy: Fictional Women (3-13-12)
The Final Jeopardy question (3/13/2012) in the category “Fictional Women” was:
After dying, she’s described as having ‘too much of water’, & her brother says, ‘therefore I forbid my tears.’
Three day champ Jessamine Price came back today to try out some more winning strategies. These two players were on hand to try their skill and luck: Sonia Saraiya from Lutz, FL, and Patrick Antle from Billerica, MA.
Jessamine found the Jeopardy! Daily Double in the category “River Damage.” With $4,400, she had a $1,000 lead over Patrick. She risked $1,400 and she was RIGHT, much to the amazement of Alex Trebek, who exclaimed “Yes! Well done!”

Jessamine finished in first place with $8,200. Patrick was next with $4,400 and Sonia was in last place with $3,200.
In Double Jeopardy!, Sonia found the first Daily Double in “European Geography.” She was still in third place, only now she had $4,800, $3,000 less than Jessamine who was in the lead. She bet $2,400, took a wild guess with Ukraine but that was WRONG.

Well, whaddya know? The second Double Jeopardy! made an appearance today after a 2-day absence. Jessamine found it in “Phenomena.” Jessamine had taken a bit of a hit on an “X-Y-Z Abbrevs” and had $10,600. Her response to the $2,000 clue was judged correct and she was awarded $4,000. She was now in the lead once again with $2,200 more than Patrick. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT, much to the re-amazement of Alex Trebek, who exclaimed “Yes, indeed!”

Jessamine finished in the lead with $21,000. Patrick was second with $14,800 and Sonia had $3,200.
ONE of the players got Final Jeopardy! right, but not the one we thought would!
Here’s more of what Laertes had to say in Hamlet, Act 4, Scene 7 upon learning of his sister’s death:
185 Too much of water hast thou, poor Ophelia,
186 And therefore I forbid my tears: but yet
187 It is our trick; nature her custom holds,
188 Let shame say what it will: when these are gone,
189 The woman will be out. Adieu, my lord:
190 I have a speech of fire, that fain would blaze,
191 But that this folly drowns it.”
Sonia wrote down “Stella.” Even she didn’t know why. She bet it all and ended up with zero.
Patrick shook his head yes with a big smile when the camera panned by during the Final Jeopardy music, so we figured he had it and he did. He bet $8,000 and finished with $22,800.
We thought for sure that Jessamine would get this one. She’s done well in literature categories and is a graduate student in creative writing and all, but she came up blank and that cost her the title and $8,601. She finished in second place with $12,399. Such a shame, because it would have been her biggest win and we would have been right about her 4-day total ending in 4, too.
Congrats to Patrick for breaking the Final Jeopardy! bad spell and winning the game.
