Final Jeopardy: Actor-Directors (11-18-11)
The Final Jeopardy question (11/18/2011) in the category “Actor-Directors” was:
It’s rare to get Oscar nominations for best director and best actor for the same film; he is 1 of the 2 who it twice.
Well, here we are at the end of another Jeopardy! week. Not counting Roger Craig decimating the competition in the Tournament of Champions, we’re on our third champ this week. Yesterday’s winner, Glenn Sullivan from Virginia returned today to see if he can hang in there. He will need to beat Mellissa Ahmed, from Iowa, and Morgan Polikoff, originally from Illiois, or one of them will be returning next Monday.
“We’re ready to party folks,” Alex said, “Sky Masterson has arrived.” Maybe he’ll explain that later. Right now, we have no idea what he’s talking about.
Morgan started off the Jeopardy! round with an impressive performance in “Seeing a Bit of America,” but Glenn got the lone Daily Double in the category “Crazy 8s” Glenn had $800 but bet the $1000 allowance. Incredibly, he picked the reindeer who is alphabetically first. LOL! (the link goes to an audio of the poem if you want to check on that). Now he was in the hole.
Per “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” it’s alphabetically last among Santa’s reindeer. show
Morgan answered Paypal to the $400 clue in “A Little Alliteration” when they were going for “Direct Deposit.” The judges decided to keep up with the times and later gave him that.
Morgan finished the round in the lead with $6,600. Glenn was second with $4,400 and Mellissa was last with $2,800.
Mellissa got the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy in the category “Assume the Position.” She had $3,600 and bet $2,000. She answered France, going by the French name, which is wrong so she dropped down to $1,600.
“Jean-Jacques Dessalines was killed in a revolt 2 years after declaring himself emperor of this country.” show
Mellissa also got the second Daily Double in “Types of Poems” It was dèja vu– she had $3,600 again and bet another $2,000. Dèja vu again with a WRONG answer and back down to $1,600.
It’s from the Italian for “little sound” show
Morgan had a runaway lead at the end of Double Jeopardy, finishing with $22,200. Glenn had $8,000 and Mellissa lost quite a bit, finishing with $400.
Final Jeopardy was a clue with more than one correct answer. How cool is that? Very cool for the contestants and ALL of them got one or the other of the answers
“Who is Clint Eastwood” or “Who is Warren Beatty?”
Clint’s films were “Unforgiven” (1994). Clint did get Best Director and Best Picture Oscars. And “Million Dollar Baby (2004).” Clint picked up an Oscar for Best Achievement in Directing.
Warren’s were “Heaven Can Wait” (1978) and “Reds” (1981). Warren won the Best Director Oscar for “Reds.”
Melissa bet her whole $400, finishing third with $800.
Glenn bet $5,000 finishing second with $13,000.
Morgan only bet enough to finish with $25,000. He will be back on Monday, and maybe he’ll change the one-day champion trend then.
In case you wanted to know, Morgan and Mellissa picked Clint Eastwood and Glenn picked Warren Beatty.
