Final Jeopardy: Nations of the World (11-1-13)
The Final Jeopardy question (11/1/2013) in the category “Nations of the World” was:
The only two countries in the Americas that border each other & begin with the same letter.
New champ Rhea Hantelman really blew the competition away yesterday, walking away with $25,000. Today she returns to compete against these two players: Andrea Massar, from Rockville, MD; and Norah McKissic, from Anchorage, AK.
Rhea found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Birth, School, Work, Death.” She was in the lead with $3,600, $400 ahead of Norah in second place. She bet $500, guessed “Tennessee Williams” but that was WRONG.

Norah finished in the lead with $6,000. Andrea was second with $4,100 and Rhea was last with $3,100.
Norah found the first Daily Double in “U.S. Forces Overseas.” She was in the lead with $13,200, $4,400 ahead of Andrea in second place. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.

Norah found the last Daily Double in “TV Title Math.” At this point, her lead had risen to $16,000, $7,200 ahead of Andrea in second place. She bet $3,000 and she was RIGHT.

Norah finished in the lead with $19,400. Andrea was next with $13,200 and Rhea was in third place with $7,900.
NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
Brazil’s border with Bolivia is its longest. Most of it runs through remote wetlands and lowland forests, and it’s much-used by smugglers. The main crossings are at Corumbá, Cáceres, Guajará-Mirim and Brasiléia.
Rhea thought it was Paraguay and Peru. She lost her $7,800 bet and finished with $100.
Andrea only had one country down: Guyana. She lost $6,201, finishing with $6,999.
Norah had Colombia and Chile. She lost $8,000 but still won the game with $11,400. Bittersweet victory!
Most Shocking Triple Stumper (to VJ anyway): The $2,000 clue in category “The Jesuits”: “The Jesuit society is considered a “mendicant order”, meaning they get by by doing this.” Couldn’t believe not one of them knew this meant “begging”.
Today’s Trip Giveaway was Vietnam and Cambodia
I believe their is another right question to Final Jeopardy. Since the official name of Mexico is United Mexican States (also referred to as United States of Mexico) it would be that and the US. //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico
@kay k, I think Rhea meant her son was a genius when she said “too,” not herself. No biggie. Lots of parents think their kids are geniuses.
PS – I actually put that geography coloring book up with Rhea’s kids in mind, since she may not be much help to them with geography — but it’s probably good for anyone who wants to be on Jeopardy! Geography questions seem to get ’em a lot.
Glad Rhea lost—her comment about her “daughter being a genius too” was beyond the pale. Be gone Rhea.
well, had andrea bet it all and been right, norah would have had to bet 7.000 to tie or 7.001 to win (privided she would also have been right). so not much difference, and as i always say: 11.400 and coming back= better than a sharp stick in the eye….:):):)
