Final Jeopardy: Countries of the World (10-4-13)
The Final Jeopardy question (10/4/2013) in the category “Countries of the World” was:
By population, it’s the largest country in the world without nuclear weapons.
2-day champ Damian Henri scored big money-wise yesterday and he’s up to $63,600 in winnings. Today he competes against these two players: A.C. Hawley, from Iowa City, IA; and Cori Wilhelm, from Parrishville, NY.
A.C. found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Outdoor Dramas.” He was in the lead with $7,000, $4,400 ahead of Cori in second place. He bet $800 and he was RIGHT. He did look like he wished he bet a bit more when he saw the clue.
Each year this Tony-Winning play is performed on the grounds of Helen Keller’s birthplace. show
A.C. finished in the lead with $7,800. Cori was second with $2,600 and Damian was last with $1,200.
A.C. found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “1967.” He was in the lead with $9,000, $2,000 ahead of Cori in second place. He bet $2,000, thought “Peace” was the answer, but that was WRONG.
In January LBJ proposed these “talks” to end the costly U.S.-Soviet weapons race. show
Damian found the last Daily Double in “From the Malay.” He was in third place with $8,800, $1,400 behind Cori’s lead. He only bet $100 and he was RIGHT. He didn’t look too tickled over his cautious bet either!
From Malay for sheath, it’s a Malay garment that’s wrapped around the lower body & tucked in at the waist. show
Cori finished in the lead with $10,200. A.C. was next with $9,000 and Damian was right behind him with $8,900.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“Experts consider it highly unlikely that Indonesia will undertake WMD proliferation programs in the foreseeable future. Indonesia does not possess nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons, and is a member in good standing of most relevant nonproliferation treaties and organizations.” (The Nuclear Threat Initiative (nti.org))
Damian got it right and bet $6,500. He finished with $15,400.
A.C. thought it was China. He lost $8,500, finishing with $500.
Cori also got it right and bet $7,801 so she won the game $18,001, and we will start out next week with a new Jeopardy! champ.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Wait, wait,wait…..Brazil is bigger than Indonesia!
Damian would have won assuming he wagered right from the lead if he’d bet more than $1400 on the last DD in DJ!, which was the last clue of the round.
well, new champion, new week coming up.
it was – populationwise a toss up between india and indonesia and since india has gone nuclear awhile ago, there was really just one choice.
