Final Jeopardy: Children’s Book Series (10-3-13)
The Final Jeopardy question (10/3/2013) in the category “Children’s Book Series” was:
The impetus for these books came from a vision the author had “of a faun carrying an umbrella & parcels in a snowy wood.”
New champ Damian Henri won $27,601 in yesterday’s game. Today he’ll try for another win and these two players will try to beat him — and each other: Kristan MacMahon, from Annandale, VA; and Rohit Dewan, originally from Federal Way, WA.
Rohit found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double on the penultimate clue in “Influential Writing.” He was in second place with $2,400, $3,200 behind Damian’s lead. He bet $1,000 and he was RIGHT.
“A Winter Walk” and “Slavery in Massachusetts” are essays by this 19th century American. show
That ended the round and Damian finished in the lead with $5,600. Rohit was second with $3,400 and Kristan was last with $400.
Rohit found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Born & Died.” Now in second place with $5,000, he was $5,800 behind Damian’s lead. He bet $3,000, started out with “JF” and caught himself. Then he got it RIGHT.
He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1925 & died in Los Angeles June 6, 1968. show
Damian found the last Daily Double in “Independence Day.” He was now in second place with $16,000, $1,200 behind Rohit’s lead. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT ARE THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA?
“C. S. Lewis, a well-known author and apologist, is best known by people of all ages for his seven volume series entitled The Chronicles of Narnia. As Lewis wrote about the land of Narnia, an imaginary world visited by children of this world, he had two obvious purposes: to entertain the readers and to suggest analogies of the Christian faith.” (Into the Wardrobe)
Kristan bet $2,799 and finished with $5,599.
Rohit doubled his money to finish with $34,400.
Damian bet $17,999 so he won his second game with $35,999, and his two day total is $63,600. Rohit surely was a worthy challenger, but Damian not only prevailed, he just knocked 3x champ Neal Pollack off our Top 12 TOC list by almost a 3G margin.
There were a bunch of Triple Stumpers in this game but none surprised Alex Trebek more than this one in the first round in the category Hawaiian Holiday: “Before the end of your trip, you’re bound to hear this song whose title means ‘Farewell to Thee’.”
@VJ
as i said, life often ain’t fair…..
i’m sure rohit thinks that way.
@aaaa – thanks for info on 3x champs, but wow, that doesn’t seem fair if someone makes more $$ in 2 days, does it?
a triple stumper would have meant a $1 win(co-champions), only the second in J! history, the first being in January 1993(no tie). Three time champs get priority over two time champs when determing who gets into the TofC.
this time damian deviated from the …01 dollar bet and went for it except a buck (might as well have wagered everything..?) wow! one more win like that and he is pretty much assured a place in the TOC. tough for rohit though.to finish with 34.400 and lose really bites.often life ain’t fair. but when you think back how many excellent players ken jennings sent home….
