Final Jeopardy: Literary Characters (10-28-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/28/2013) in the category “Literary Characters” was:

This 19th century character talks about his own writings about tattoo marks & on the tracing of footsteps.

Current champ Mike Shapiro has a 2-day total of $24,800. He starts out the week with these two players: Gus Iurillo, from Glen Allen, VA; and Molly Kossoff, from West Hills, CA.

Molly found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Another Jackson 5.” She was in the lead with $5,600, $3,600 ahead of Mike in second place. She bet $2,000 and thought it was Philadelphia, but that was WRONG.

Maynard Jackson was mayor of this city and one of the busiest airports now bears his name. show

Molly finished in the lead with $5,000. Mike was second with $2,000 and Gus was last with $1,000.

Mike found the first Daily Double in “Middle Age Men.” He was in second place with $4,800, $6,600 less than Molly’s runaway lead. He bet $3,200, thought it was the bubonic plague, but that was WRONG.

Al-Razi gave the first description of acquired immunity in a discussion of this disease that disfigured & killed. show

Mike found the last Daily Double in “Intergalactic House Hunting.” In third place with $6,000, he was now $6,600 behind Molly’s lead (no longer a runaway because Gus had $6,600). He bet $5,000, and he was RIGHT.

Want land? Buying on this moon of Saturn is a no-brainer; its 3,200-mile diameter is bigger than Mercury! show

Molly finished in the lead with $16,200. Mike was next with $11,000 and Gus was in third place with $7,000.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS SHERLOCK HOLMES?

MagicDragon.com has a complete resume on Arthur Conan Doyle’s character, Sherlock Holmes. In addition to tattoos and footsteps, Holmes published material on tobacco ashes, shapes of ears, cryptography, dating of documents and the influence of trades on form of hands.

Gus thought it was Fagin, a Dickens villain. He lost his $1,500 bet and finished with $5,500.

Mike also thought it was Fagin. He lost $10,000, finishing with $1,000.

Molly didn’t write anything down. She lost $5,100 but finished with the winning total: $11,100. So Molly Kossoff, who played an excellent game, is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Note: Thank goodness we figured out the Siddartha pronunciation mystery ourselves last Friday, because there was nary an explanation today. Funny how we ended last week with a literary FJ and started this week with another one.

Would Dr Watson have been an acceptable answer to the 10/28/2013 final jeopardy question as it was he who actually did the writtings which chronicled Sherlock Holmes’s cases in the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle series?

The ans. to last nights question was SHERLOCK HOLMES. You said there is a contest all you had to do was go to “jeopardy.com” I did that and saw no contest. How do I get into the contest?

The second round board was cleared, the WIcked (musical) category in round one had a lot to do with four clues being unrevealed in round one I suppose.
