Final Jeopardy: Inventors (10-2-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/2/2013) in the category “Inventors” was:

2-day champ Fidelito Cortes is back for another shot at winning. He’s made $45,000 so far. His opponents today are: Kathy Johnson, from Minnetonka, MN; and Damian Henri, from Shaker Heights, OH.

Fidelito found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Red-dy.” He was in a tie for the lead with Kathy. They both had $4,200, $2,200 more than Damian in second place. He made it a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.

The last Daily Double was in the category “Justice Sandra Day O’Connor,” but we never got to see it. The contestants left that whole category until last, the clues were long and were being read by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor herself, very slowly, so time just ran out.

Damian finished in the lead with $20,400. Fidelito was next with $13,800 and Kathy was in third place with $4,600.

ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS PHILLIPS?

“The significance of the crosshead or Phillips screw lies in its self-centering property. In 1933, Henry F. Phillips purchased the rights to a socket screw and redesigned the screw with a cruciform recess.” (Inventors Hall of Fame: Henry Phillips)

Damian bet $7,201 so he became the new champ with a total of $27,601. Nice going!
