The Final Jeopardy question (10/19/2012) in the category “Cable TV Firsts” was:

When Turner Classic Movies began broadcasting on April 14, 1994, the first movie shown was this one.

Our new champ today is Glenn Fleishman, who won $15,199 yesterday. Today he’s taking on these two players: Matt Oldani, from St. Louis, MO and Abby O’Reilly, from Clifton, NJ.

Abby got the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “That’s a Keeper.” It was the very last clue. She was in second place with $5,400, $800 less than Glenn’s lead. She bet $1,000 but blanked out so she was WRONG.

WHAT IS GONE WITH THE WIND?

“Turner Classic Movies officially debuted on April 14, 1994 at 6 p.m. ET with Ted Turner ceremonially launching the channel in New York City’s Times Square district. The date was chosen for its significance as ‘the exact centennial anniversary of the first public movie showing in New York City.’ The very first movie ever screened on TCM was the 1939 classic epic Gone with the Wind, exactly what its sister station, TNT, had aired as its debut program six years before.” (wikipedia)

Matt got it right and bet $5,599. He finished with $11,199.

Abby thought it was Casablanca. She bet everything but a buck so she finished with a buck.

Glenn wrote down “It’s a Wonderful Life.” He bet $5,401 so he remained champion by a margin of $2,000. Winnings today: $13,199. His 2-day total is $28,398.
