Final Jeopardy: 2011 Events (10-17-11)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/17/2011), in the category 2011 Events, was:

To mark an historic visit on May 17, an Irish Army Band played this song followed by Ireland’s anthem

We start out the week with Friday’s champion Joe Koster who defeated two-day champion Katie Proctor last Friday. Let’s see how Joe made out against new challengers, Jeff DuFour and Lanny Timan.

The Jeopardy round wasn’t that impressive. The guys did well in a couple of categories they were good at (Joe knows sports; Jeff knows business) and Lanny did particularly well in the “Name-Dropping” category that had to do with style. Lanny got the Daily Double in the “The Land of the Bible” and added $1,500 to the lead she already had.

Lanny held on to that lead finishing first with $6,500. Jeff had $4,800 and Joe was in third place with $4,400 (the exact same amount he had at the end of the first round of Jeopardy on Friday, by the way).

Lanny got the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy (Countries of Afric”a”), scooping up another $1,500 and pulling ahead of Jeff who was catching up. Lanny got the last Daily Double, too. Can you believe it? Well, it didn’t do her any good because she got it wrong and lost $1,800. Jeff overtook the lead and would have finished Double Jeopardy with $2,000 more than $14,800, but he got his “Gone with the Wind” stars mixed up on the last clue. So Alex said his lead was not a runaway.

Thelma “Butterfly” McQueen was the actress who attended school in Augusta. As Prissy, she uttered the immortal line: “”I don’t know nothin’ ’bout birthin’ babies!” Butterfly died in Augusta but was actually born in Tampa, Florida. Hattie McDaniel (Mammy) was from Kansas.

Lanny finished second with $9,400. Joe trailed with $8,000. They both got the Final Jeopardy answer right:

“What is ‘God Save the Queen’?”

Joe bet $7,998 giving him $15,998; Lanny bet $6,601 bringing her total to $16,001.
Jeff’s wrong answer (“Hail to the Chief”) cost him $4,001, leaving him in third place with $10,799.

Joe had to go home with his $25,201 winnings, and Lanny gets a chance to win some more money tomorrow, unless a runaway player shows up.
