Final Jeopardy: Female Singers (10-16-13)
The Final Jeopardy question (10/16/2013) in the category “Female Singers” was:
In 2013, she became only the third female singer after Aretha Franklin & Madonna to chart over 40 Top 40 Hits.
New champ Stuart Anderson gets his second game after winning $16,801 yesterday. Today he takes on these two players: Jane Wanninger, from Nashville, TN; and Mat Ahn, originally from Royalton, OH.
Stuart found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double on the third clue picked in “Field of Dreams.” He was in the lead with $400, $200 ahead of Mat in second place. He bet the $1,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.
In 1899, he described dreams as “the royal road to knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind.” show
Stuart finished in the lead with $4,400. Jane was second with $1,800 and Mat was last with $1,400.
Mat found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Familiar Phrases.” He was in last place with $1,000, $7,800 behind Stuart’s lead. He bet the $2,000 allowance. He gave the answer with “sent” which was accepted without explanation, so he was RIGHT.
Meaning “betrayed,” it came from the practice of sending slaves to the deep south, sometimes on the Mississippi. show
Mat found the last Daily Double in “Year He, Year He.” He was now in second place with $4,600, $6,200 behind Stuart’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and came up with 1944. That was WRONG.
Todd Beamer gave the heroic command “Let’s roll.” show
Stuart finished in the lead with $14,400. Jane was next with $9,400. At minus $1,600, Mat was done at this point, which we thought was too darned bad because he probably knew the FJ answer.
NONE of the remaining contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
We’d love to give you some meaningful information here, but without knowing what chart the FJ clue is referring to, it’s tough. Assuming it’s Billboard, here’s their article on Swift getting her 41st Top 40 hit in 2013.
It looked like Jane wrote down “Marian Carey,” but in any event Mariah Carey was incorrect. She lost $9,397, finishing with $3.
Stuart wrote down “Whitney Houston” and bet $4,401 so he ended up with $9,999 and his second win. His two-day total is $26,800.
i completely agree. “who charted more than 40 top forty hits, besides a.f. and madonna?”.or similar. age had nothing to do with it, but they gave you somehow the impression, putting 40 so close together and both in numbers, instead 40 and forty….
What a horribly worded final jeopardy question…i was racking my brain for female singers over the age of 40
