Final Jeopardy: 1960s TV Characters (1-28-12)

The Final Jeopardy question (1/30/2012) in the category “1960s TV Characters” was:

One of her first spoken lines is translated “You have the face of a wise and fearless caliph.”

2-day champ Brendan Graham returned today. He’s won $46,602 and that can increase if he is able to beat these two challengers: Danny Para, from Miami, FL, and Kate Jeracki from Ft. Collins, CO.

Don’t you sometimes feel think it’s quite peculiar how the Daily Double is the VERY LAST clue on the board? It was in the Daily Double round last Friday and it was in the first round today. Kate got it in the category ‘Art ‘R’eview”. She took quite a shellacking in this round with some misguided guesses and was $1,600 in the hole. She chose the $1,000 allowance and was RIGHT.

This term can refer to a style of art or design or to a highly ornamental style of music of the late 18th century. show

So Kate was still in the hole, but only by minus $600 now. Danny had $3,600 and Brendan was in the lead with a runaway $10,200.

In Double Jeopardy, Danny found the first Daily Double in “Place.” He had $6,000 and bet $5,000. He was RIGHT.

“Cape Dezhnev, the easternmost point on mainland Asia juts into this strait.” show

That ended Brendan’s runaway status, and when Danny got the next two clues, he even got in the lead. Then Brendan got the last clue in that category and took the lead back for a few seconds.

Danny had a $1,600 lead when he found the last Daily Double in “Occasion.” He bet $6,000 again. This time he was WRONG when he said something that sounded like: “what is remember the Maine, to hell with Spain.”

September 21, 1897: it seems 3 months early but the N.Y. Sun publishes an editorial famous for this 7-word phrase. show

Danny ended up in third place going into Final Jeopardy with $11,000. Kate landed on her feet in second place with $11,400, and Brendan had the lead with $21,000.

TWO players got Final Jeopardy right.

WHO IS JEANNIE?

In the 1960s TV Series, “I Dream of Jeannie,” when Major Anthony Nelson finds a bottle on the beach, he releases a genie (Barbara Eden) who initially speaks to him in Farsi. The series ran for 5 seasons from 1965 until 1970, starting out on NBC. Only Kate was old enough to be around. She mentioned during the chat that she turned 18 in the 60s.

We knew Danny had it right by the smile on his face. He doubled his score, ending with $22,000.

Kate also got it right but only bet $10,000. Her total was $21,400.

Brendan wrote down “who is Scherezade,” leaving out a syllable. To our knowledge, Scheherazade didn’t have a 1960s TV show, although she was in a 2000 TV film, called Arabian Nights, where John Leguziamo was the genie in the bottle.

Brendan bet $1,801 and ended up in third place with $19,199. He will get an extra $1,000 to go with his $46,602. Most admirably, Brendan and his wife have already made plans to use some of his winnings to help “The Wounded Warrior Project” and The Fisher House Foundation, which helps wounded soldiers with housing needs.

Congrats to Danny. Thank goodness you bet it all. Nice going!
