Dr. Phil Under Fire for ‘Rape Research’ Tweet
Dr. Phil McGraw posted a question on his twitter account that is causing quite an uproar, even though the tweet itself was promptly deleted, apparently when it was seen that it was being taken as a statement and not a question. Here’s what it said:
“If a girl is drunk, is it ok to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil #teensaccused”
The NY Daily News reports that McGraw says the question was posted in the nature of research, but it promptly drew snide remarks and jokes aimed at the talk show host psychologist, including accusations of being a misogynist.
A lady named Carmen Rios began a petition on Change.org, saying she was “shocked and outraged” at the question. She says that education is the key to changing that attitude. She states: “Earlier this year I started a petition on change.org with a college football player, Connor Clancy, asking high school coaches to teach young athletes about rape and sexual assault. We launched this in the days after the Steubenville trial, in which two high school football players were charged with raping a fellow student who was drunk to the point of being unable to consent. Their defense attorneys argued that the young men charged didn’t know it was rape when they committed it. We won and hundreds of thousands of young athletes now have access to the education Dr. Phil appears to need himself.”
It’s a bit of a leap to assume that Dr. Phil would answer “yes” himself to this stupid question, and it is stupid because it does not give any indication of anything other than the hashtag #teensaccused, which Rios has assumed automatically puts Dr. Phil on the side of the accused.
We are really glad that there are so many people who no longer believe the female who has been drinking has brought upon herself whatever evil may befall her, even rape, but do we want the pendulum to swing so far the other way, that we automatically assume accused people are guilty without knowing anything at all about a case?
Hey, Dr.Felipe, Dr. Phil, Mr.big shot, do you realize that you are asking the same as if you were asking… If you find a woman in the park, who visibly has been raped and is still unconscious, do you rape her again???? Do you see my point, Mr. Big thinker? That is basically your question, Mr. Smart. Of course you will probably find freaks of nature, garbage from hell who will feed your stupidity and say yes is ok to “do the deed to a drunken girl or woman, and mean it, but even by asking something as low as this you Mr. Big have let down a lot people. What do you expect to get from this? I say you’re trying to quit your job, your marriage, or both. Bad form Mr. Superfly!
I am still trying to assimilate this trend in which people who had eveything going for them, life was good, rich, not necessarily in terms of money, but rich, full, steady, then one day they decide to open their mouths, they just get up that one day, have breakfast, go to work.. and suddenly, misteriously, a fleet of bulldozers couldn’t keep their mouths close… they say something that reverberates all the way to Andromeda and back with the force of a supernova. What the f_ _k kind of a question is that? Mr. Big shot Shrink who has all the angles in your pocket? Live and learn to discern people, that’s what my grand Pa told me, “vive y aprende a conocer la gente, nene”. I think Dr. Phil is bored. Yes. He’s bored and he don’t give a s_ _t anymore ’bout backlash of any kind. I don’t think he “would” say it is ok to do the deed to a drunken female, or even imply it, but I think he is just bored and he’s looking for a change-causing ripple. Remember he’s very smart.
outage question Dr. Phil knows better the sense of respect,if some body, teenager or not is drunk, he should know the answer.
