Big Dot Jones on Glee
Dot Jones or Dot Marie Jones, as she is sometimes billed, is currently playing Coach Shannon Beiste on Glee. Is the last name a continuation of some of the other names that let you know that Dot is a big gal and no one to mess with (as if you can’t already see that).
Dot is 6′ 3″ tall according to her IMDB bio and a 15 time World and 6 time National arm-wrestling champion. These attributes obviously play a part in the types of roles she is selected for, and they have very often come up with a name to match:
In 1992, Dot was Lady Battleaxe on the game show, “Knights and Warriors” and in 1994, she was Big Lucy on an episode of “On Our Own.” She has often played prison guards, inmates, and even a coach on “Lizzie McGuire.”
Some of the weirder monikers she’s been given on TV and in film are Lunachick (One World), Death Angel (Chicago Hope) and Black Widow (Rosanne), and how about this one: Miss Meat (Patch Adams). That was a long time ago in 1998. Now it makes you think of Lady Gaga.
