Secret Life: Loose Lips Recap

Last week, everything seemed to be heading toward togetherness for Ramy and Badrian, but in “Loose Lips” (May 16th), it all falls apart over a hall fight. Grace (Megan Park) and Amy (Shailene Woodley) are discussing the upcoming baby shower they are throwing for Adrian (Francia Raisa). They realize no one else is going to come besides them. Grace suggests Lauren (Camille Winbush) and Madison (Renee Olstead), but Amy points out they are her friends and she doesn’t know if Adrian considers them friends. They decide on Alice who tells a “little white lie,” about a cousin’s bar mitzvah when her family isn’t even Jewish.

Adrian appears and finds out about the guest list problem. She has a unique approach to the problem and calls over Zoe (Mackenzie Rosman), the first girl she sees who has slept with Ricky (Daren Kagasoff). Zoe is perplexed: “Why are you inviting me? I slept with your boyfriend.” It becomes more perplexing as she looks at Amy and says: “Although now he’s your boyfriend.” She turns to Grace and say “Although he used to be your boyfriend, too, right?” Grace agrees and Zoe asks Adrian if she’s going invite every girl Ricky ever slept. “Maybe,” Adrian says, grabbing up the invitations and yelling: “Candy, Robin, Cheryl,” and Zoe chimes in “and every girl who slept with Ricky when he was with Adrian.” Before Amy and Grace’s astonished eyes, a whole gang of girls gather ’round, then one by one all the Ricky hos decline the invitations. Zoe gives hers back to Adrian, saying “I really don’t have an excuse. I just don’t want to give you a gift.” Amy confronts Adrian, asking if she did that just to show how many girls Ricky slept with. Adrian says: “Geez, Amy, this isn’t about you. This is about me.” She wants to get back these girls who slept with Ricky when he was hers and show them she won. Disgusted, Amy gives Grace the invitation and says she’s out. Grace thinks Adrian owes Amy an apology, because it is all about Amy. Adrian says it’s partly Grace’s fault, too, for not getting a list together so she and Amy can rub it in her face that she has no friends. And it’s on, as everyone takes sides — except Ricky.

Amy finds out in her convo with Lauren and Madison that Adrian was having sex with her own step-brother during Amy’s shower. They think she’s a witch. “I feel badly that she’s having a baby that she hadn’t planned and she’s still in high school,” Lauren says, “but she did this to herself.” You can read Amy’s thoughts. Lauren could just as well be talking about her. Then Madison straight up points out that Amy brought the current situation on herself by not putting a list of guests together. Lauren says “You’re just too nice. You always have been. That’s how this whole thing started. You were too nice to Ricky when you had sex with him at band camp.” Not exactly music to Amy’s ears.

Ben finds Adrian upset and tearful. She cries that Amy hurt her feelings saying she has no friends. He gets pretty mad. Ricky is getting the low down from Amy who thinks she did it on purpose because Adrian is still in love with him. Ricky refuses to get involved. Ben confronts Ricky who tells him to stay out of it like he’s doing. Ricky orders Ben to stay from Amy. Ben tells him to stay away from Adrian. Later in the butcher shop, Ben seeks Bunny’s advice. Bunny (Kathy Kinney) thinks they should straighten this out pronto before it snowballs into hell, but Ricky insists it’s a chick fight and they need to stay out of it.

Grace’s mom (Josie Bissett) doesn’t want her 4 dozen cupcakes going to waste and suggests inviting some of the majorettes. “Everyone knows the majorettes are all sluts,” Grace says. Mrs. Tseguay says there’s going to be a shower, like it or not. Amy’s mom (Molly Ringwald) advises Amy to work it out, but then Grace’s mom calls up looking to talk to Amy’s dad, George (Mark Derwin), also her ex-husband.

Grace then talks to her brother Tom who is still in love with Adrian. Tom says he doesn’t like her or Amy for making Adrian feel bad about not having any friends. “You think you’re really smart,” Tom says, “but if you were, you wouldn’t have sex with every guy you date.” OMG!

Ben takes it straight to Amy and pleads his case for Amy to get the shower back on track. Amy refuses and gives him some advice: “You’re having a baby with a girl who got pregnant because she was trying to get back at her old boyfriend, and you’re marrying her and sharing the rest of you’re life with her and she’s still trying to get back at her old boyfriend and all the girls he ever slept with including me, and that’s the truth. So deal with it.”

Ben strikes back hard: “And just what was your reason for getting pregnant? Were you taken advantage of? Did Ricky take advantage of you? Were you sexually stupid? Did you not know that having unprotected sex could result in a pregnancy? You know, at least Adrian is willing to take responsibility for what happened… Adrian is honest, even brutally honest, so I believe her… when she says that she loves me…. Do you believe Ricky when he tells you that he loves you? Because Ricky has told every girl that he has ever been with that he loves her…. ” He suggests that she only wants to be with Ricky to justify getting pregnant by him. George overhears this tirade and kicks Ben out. In tears, Amy asks George if he still wants her to throw a shower for Adrian.

After Leo (Steve Schirippa) hears about it from both George and Ben, Leo tells Ben his attack on Amy has turned into a full-fledged war that he wants stopped. “Stopped or won?” Ben wants to know. “Stopped,” Leo says. Alice and Henry show up and Ben confronts Alice about her bar mitzvah lie. After all the perks Alice and Henry have enjoyed for years through their friendship with Ben, like being chauffeured around to free concerts, sports games and getting free food, Alice couldn’t be bothered to get a small present for the mother of his daughter. Alice says she loves Ben but doesn’t think he should be getting married. Henry apologizes to both of them for what they said and wishes them “love, peace and Soul Train.” That little bit of humor bombs.

Grace and Jack’s confrontation goes really badly, too. Jack (Greg Finley) thinks she should have come up with the invite list. Jack say he doesn’t believe Grace is really Adrian’s friend and never got over his tryst with Adrian. “And are we talking about oral sex or sex sex?” Grace wants to know. As they continue to argue, Grant (Grant Harvey) walks in just when Jack is asking Grace if she still cares about him. Grant leaves and Grace tells Jack she hates him. “I really don’t believe that,” Jack laughs.

As if that wasn’t enough insults for one show, Ashley asks Amy why she wasn’t invited to the shower. Amy shows she is just as capable of being nasty as anyone else. When Ashley asks if she is in love with an imaginary Ricky or the Ricky who sleeps with everyone, Amy says: “Not everyone. Not you.” Amy tells her that she can’t possibly see that Ashley’s kiss with Ricky was a complete and total betrayal. She says Ashley didn’t care if she completely destroyed her relationship with Ricky just to have a little fun. Ashley retorts that Amy really didn’t care if she completely destroyed their family just to have a little fun at band camp. Yikes!

Just like Ashley told Amy, Ricky is on the phone with Adrian trying to give her advice. He wants her to go over and talk to Amy. But Adrian lets him know that Ben was already over there.

Next week promises to deliver more Adrian and Amy tension and Ricky angst. FYI, we were on Adrian and Ashley’s side. Amy thinks she’s so special. Who’s side were you on?
