Paula Deen Gets No Love from Food Network for Being Honest

It’s a sad state of affairs when a person tells the truth and is treated the way Paula Deen has been treated in the past week, but then again, that’s today’s media, twisting anything and everything into a sensationalized version of the truth.

The latest headline from US Magazine is a case in point: “Paula Deen Fired by Food Network; Contract Not Renewed.” Notice how they go for the sensational Fired first, then add what really happened — they declined to renew her contract.

In a deposition, Paula Deen admitted to having used the “N” word in the past, but not for a long time. Once made public, this information was twisted every which way you can imagine, to even make it sound like she was admitting to the allegations made in a lawsuit by a former employee of hers, when she wasn’t. Deen referred to calling a criminal the “N” word to her husband after having a gun pulled on while working at a bank. This was pinpointed down to the 1980s, in an effort to make her look like a liar in another statement about changing post-60s attitudes: “”But that’s just not a word that we use as time has gone on. Things have changed since the ’60s in the south,” she said. “And my children and my brother object to that word being used in any cruel or mean behavior. As well as I do.”

Paula Deen was born in the segregated South and if she had LIED and said she never used the “N” word, no one would have believed her anyway. It’s a moot point whether they would have come up with some irrefutable proof that she has said the word, whenever she may have said it, but whenever she did say it — Deen then publicly apologized on youtube to anyone she has hurt, taking personal responsibility, and asking for forgiveness. That was swiftly followed by a message of no forgiveness from the Food Network.

So that’s how it is folks. The Food Network could have sent a message of forgiveness which would have been a better step and a positive example in the direction of healing. But they chose to appease those who would rather punish than forgive. So apparently, in today’s climate, lying is your best option.

Maybe Paula was stupid for being honest, but others have survived well enough, like Jesse Jackson and “Hymie Town.” I guess the Food Network has to protect its own business. I do believe Paula is sincere a lot more than I believe that woman suing her was traumatized to the tune of a million dollars. :-)

OMG, LMAO. Calling people n*ggers is a MISTAKE? A “whoops, I made a boo boo”? She did it on PURPOSE! When you do something on purpose, it’s not a “mistake.” Look up the word in the dictionary.

Wow, you really sound pretty hateful yourself, sir, but it sounds like you only hate fat idiots and bigots, is that it? Anyway, it’s not a matter of sympathy — I do think we should be forgiven for our mistakes when we own up to them and apologize. There are people in this world I can say I really dislike, and they are those who have personally done me harm and rather than owning up to it and apologizing, lied about it and me. But if they told the truth, I would forgive them.

Yeah, right, you don’t care about it, nor do you care about the people who do care about it. She said, “Most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks.” Yeah, most jokes are, I guess, among the people she hangs out with! I can’t believe you have sympathy for that fat idiot. She’s a bigot, and anyone who defends her must be one, too, or else they’d have empathy for the people she hates. And don’t tell me she doesn’t hate “black folk” and “Jewish people.” Of course she does! … She had to annouce “I’m not racist.” Only racists need to annouce such a thing.
