Final Jeopardy: British History (7-18-12)

The Final Jeopardy question (7/18/2012) in the category “British History” was:

This 17th Century King was the last British monach to enter the House of Commons.

New champ Dan Burke returns today. He picked up a cool $26,798 yesterday. Today, these new players would like to take home a bundle too: Julie Bratvold Ghanbari, from San Diego, CA and  Elisa Leigan, from San Luis Obispo, CA.

Julie found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Mysteries & Thrillers” before the first commercial break. She was in second place with $1,200, $1,000 behind Dan who was in the lead. She made it a true Daily Double and took a shot with “The Long Goodbye.” That was WRONG.

Chapter I of this classic is ‘Spade & Archer’.”

The Greeks said this fire-breather was part lion, part dragon & part goat — but maybe it was a figment of their imagination.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS CHARLES I?

On January 4, 1642, Charles I entered the House of Commons in an attempt to arrest five of its members on a charge of treason. Charles wasn’t just the last king to enter the House of Commons. He was also the first, but his mission was a failure and Charles felt compelled to flee London. Civil War broke out in England and, in 1649, Charles lost his head, literally. (Charles I Timeline)

Elisa wrote down “James II” but bet nothing. She remained at $2,200.

Dan chose “Charles II.” He bet everything but three bucks and that’s what he finished with.

Julie got it right and bet $7,101 so she won the game with $18,001. Congrats to Julie, good work!
