Final Jeopardy: Women in Entertainment (6-5-12)

The Final Jeopardy question (6/5/2012) in the category “Women in Entertainment” was:

1 of the first 2 women in Hollywood to own a studio (according to the official bio of No. 3, Oprah)

2-day champ Claudia Gray returned today. She won by a fluke on Friday but put in a solid performance yesterday. Claudia’s up to $24,401 so far and will add to that today, if she can defeat these two new contestants: Ed Hanlon, from Santa Monica, CA and  Fran Frederick, from West Springfield, MA.

Fran found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Celebrations of the Month.” She was in the lead with $3,200, $1,200 more than Ed who was in second place. She bet $1,000 and thought it was June, which was WRONG.

WHO IS MARY PICKFORD OR LUCILLE BALL?

“In 1988, (Oprah) established Harpo Studios, making her the third woman in the American entertainment industry (after Mary Pickford and Lucille Ball) to own her own studio. (Oprah’s Official Interactive Biography: Television Pioneer)

Ed crossed off Lucille Ball and wrote down Mary Pickford. He doubled his score to $20,800.

Fran picked Mary Pickford and bet $10,000. She finished with $20,400.

Claudia had Mary Pickford, too. Her $8,401 bet brought her total to $20,801, the extra buck she needed to continue on as Jeopardy! champ. Kudos, Claudia, nice going! Her 3-day total is $45,202.
