Final Jeopardy: State Mottos (4-1-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (4/1/2013) in the category “State Mottos” was:

2-day champ, Rebecca Rider starts off the week with $46,400 under her belt and these two new challengers to contend with: Alex Stoy, from Tarzana, CA; and Jim Craner from Riverton, IL.

Alex found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Girth of a Nation” before the first break. He was in the lead with $4,000, $2,400 more than Rebecca and Jim, who were tied in second place. He bet $1,500 and he was RIGHT.

Rebecca finished in the lead with $6,000. Alex was second with $5,500 and Jim was last with $3,200.

Jim found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “15 Letters or More.” He just took over the lead and had $8,000, $900 more than Alex in second place. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

Jim found the last Daily Double in “Sociology.” He was in second place with $13,200 when he found it but he was then docked $3,200 for an answer previously judged correct. He still was in second place but now he had $10,000, $4,800 less than Rebecca’s lead. He bet $2,000, and he was RIGHT.

Rebecca finished in the lead with $19,200. Jim was next with $16,800 and Alex was in third place with $4,300.

WHAT IS EUREKA?

Alex was smiling very broadly because he is from California and got it right. He bet $4,200 and finished with $8,500.

Jim thought it was “Hope.” That cost him $8,000. He finished with $8,800.

Rebecca also got it right and bet a whopping $14,600 so she won her third match up with $33,800. Her 3-day total is $80,200. A great start to the week.
