Final Jeopardy: Classic Novels (3-5-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (3/5/2013) in the category “Classic Novels” was:

In this novel the title character says, “It is a bad omen” after a guard does not hear a train & is crushed.

New champ Dylan Wint won yesterday’s game by holding on to $7,199 of his money in yesterday’s unsolved (by the contestants) Final Jeopardy! Today he is up against these two players: Ilene Morgan, from Rolla, MO; and Drew Horwood, from Minneapolis, MN.

Drew found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Stephen King.” He was in the lead with $4,000, $1,800 more than Dylan in second place. He bet $1,000, but floundered a bit. Nor really sure what he said but whatever it was, it was WRONG.

Dylan finished in the lead with $16,200. Ilene was next with $11,800 and Drew was in third place with $8,500.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS ANNA KARENINA?

“Trains are the most important symbols in the story of Anna Karenina, due to their prominence in the Anna/Vronsky story line. More specifically, trains are a destructive element throughout the novel. Vronsky and Anna first meet at a train station, where a drunken guard is crushed to death. Anna calls the death an omen of evil. Her first encounter with Vronsky is thus overlaid with the specter of death….” (Shmoop: Trains in Anna Karenina)

Drew got it right and bet $8,498. He finished with $16,998.

Ilene also got it right. She only bet $3,000, though, so she finished with $14,800.

Dylan thought it was “Murder on the Orient Express.” That cost him $7,400 and he ended up last with $8,800.

So congrats to Drew Horwood, our second new champ this week.
