Final Jeopardy: College & Universities (3-4-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (3/4/2013) in the category “College & Universities” was:

One of its mascots is a restored 1930 sports coupe that’s been in use at the school since 1961.

3-time champ Sara Garnett returns today. She’s won $75,403 so far. Her opponents in the first match of the week are: Erin Schmidt, from Mishawaka, IN and Dylan Wint, from Las Vegas, NV.

Dylan found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Exiled.” He was in second place with $2,400, $400 behind Sara in the lead. He bet $400 and he was RIGHT.

Sara finished in the lead with $13,200. Dylan finished second with $11,200 and Erin was last with $8,800.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS GEORGIA TECH?

“The Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech is the 1930 Ford Model A Sport coupe that serves as the official mascot of the student body at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The Wreck is present at all major sporting events and student body functions.” (wikipedia)

Buzz is the other official mascot of the Georgia Techn, a stylized yellowjacket with yellow-and-black fur, white wings, a yellow head, and antennae.

Erin wrote down “MIT” (Massachusetts Institute of Technology whose mascot is Tim the Beaver). She lost $5,000 and finished with $3,800.

Dylan picked the University of Michigan. Its mascot is Wolverine. That cost him $4,001 and he finished with $7,199.

Sara wrote down “W Michigan.” Its mascot is Buster Bronco. She lost $9,201 which put her in second place with $3,999.

Obviously the fact that the mascot was a car pointed Dylan and Sara in the direction of Detroit. What struck us funny was that none of the contestants rang in on the last two clues in Double Jeopardy! so we thought at least one, if not more, of the contestants would bet very low or nothing at all in FJ. But there’s no point in going on about what might have been.

The end result is we’ll be seeing a new champion tomorrow. That’s Dylan Wint.
