Final Jeopardy: National Parks (2-3-12)

The Final Jeopardy question (2/3/2012) in the category “National Parks” was:

A biosphere reserve, this southern national park is the largest in the lower 48 within one state.

One of 3 college contestants today will definitely make it into the semi-finals today and it will be one of these students: Zack Terrill, a senior at Vanderbilt University from Winter Springs, FL.; Tyler Benedict, a junior at Columbia University from Dayton, OH, and Sarah Bart, a senior at Goucher College from Philadelphia, PA.

Tyler found the Daily Double in the Jeopardy! round in the category “Geography” with the ‘G’ in quotes before the commercial break. He was in the lead with $1,200 and chose to risk $800 of it. He was RIGHT.

Tyler finished in the lead going into Final Jeopardy with $20,600. Sarah was next with $11,600, and Zack was last with $9,600.

TWO of the players got Final Jeopardy right. Once again, we had two out of three correct Daily Doubles.

WHAT ARE THE EVERGLADES?

“Everglades National Park, the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, boasts rare and endangered species. It has been designated a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, and Wetland of International Importance, significant to all people of the world.” (NPS.gov: Everglades).

Zack got it right, bet it all and doubled his score to $19,200

Sarah got it right, betting $7,000. Her total was $18,600.

Tyler wrote down “Yosemite” – which is in California. Not too sure why he would consider California a southern state, but Big Bend in Texas is bigger than Yosemite. In any event, he only bet $500 so he won his spot in the semi-finals all the same with a $20,100 finish.

We now have 3 semi-finalists:
Weston Manion $28,800
Tyler Benedict $20,100
Connie Shi $19,000

And here are the candidates for the 4 Wild Card Spots:
Zack Terrill $19,200
Sarah Park $18,600
Jaime Alayon $12,799
Anne Rozek $11,500
