Final Jeopardy: Presidential Inaugurations (12-27-11)

The Final Jeopardy question (12/27/2011) in the category “Presidential Inaugurations” was:

His second inauguration marked the first time that women officially participated in the inaugural parade.

Will this be the day that 7-day champion Jason Keller takes his winnings home? If so, that would be $183,900. Two new contestants will try their best to help Jason back to New Jersey: Andrew Robinson from Washington, D.C. and Bill Moreau from Woodbridge, Ontario.

Alex said the old Jerry Reed song “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” applies to Jason. Wonder if endorsements by Alex make the contestants uneasy.

Bill was in the lead with $4,000 by the first commercial break. He had $4,800 when he found the lone Daily Double in the Jeopardy round “Decades of Disasters.” He wagered a self-confessed conservative $2,000 and, as luck would have it, got it WRONG. He was doing quite well in that category up till then.

Bill still had a $400 lead, but Jason overtook him by the end of the round, finishing first with $6,400. Bill was next with $2,600 and Andrew was close behind with $2,400.

Before Double Jeopardy began, Bill was awarded an additional $800 for a clue previously called wrong. Papain can be used as part of a marinade to tenderize meat, so Bill now had $3,400.

Andrew found the first Daily Double in “Cosmopolitan.” He had $5,200 and went for the gusto. He thought it was Odessa but, ALAS, that was WRONG.

Jason then got the second Daily Double in “Red Book:” With a $9,000 lead over Bill and Andrew in hole, Jason chose to bet a measly $3,000, and he immediately nodded his head affirmatively when the clue was revealed, indicating he believed he knew the answer and he was RIGHT.

Jason finished the round with another runaway– $18,200. Bill had $6,200 and Andrew managed to get out of the red to go into Final Jeopardy with $3,200.

One contestant got Final Jeopardy right– the same one that got yesterday’s right, as a matter of fact.

WHO IS WOODROW WILSON?

Women participated in the inaugural day parade for the first time on Monday, March 5, 1917. It was also the first time that the First Lady (Edith, who was his second wife) accompanied the President both to and from the Capitol” (Inaugural Facts and Firsts)

Andrew wrote down: “Who is Calvin Coolidge.” (He was only inaugurated once. His firsts: First Inaugural ceremony broadcast nationally by radio; first time a former President — Taft — administered the oath of office as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.) That cost Andrew $3,198, leaving him with $2.00. He probably thought that automatically put him in third place, but…

Bill wrote down “Who is F.D.R.” and bet $5,199, finishing with $1.00. (FDR’s firsts at his 2nd inauguration: First President Inaugurated on January 20th; first time the Vice President was inaugurated outdoors on same platform with the President.)

Can you believe that Jason bet nothing? He did just that and added $18,200 to his winnings, bringing his total to $202,100.
