Final Jeopardy: U.S. Money Math (11-22-11)

The Final Jeopardy question (11/22/2011) in the category “U.S. Money Math” was:

Adding up the denominations of circulating bills with U.S. Presidents on the front gives you this total.

Monday’s champ, Francis Lansagnan, was back today to try to double, or at least add to, that $28,401 he won yesterday. We noticed that Francis was pretty quick on the buzzer so he just might do that unless Abby Drwecki, from Colorado, and Peter Jury, from Connecticut, are quicker.

In the Jeopardy! round, Francis had a lead over the other players throughout and they didn’t get to the Daily Double until the bitter end. It was the last clue in “Where Are You From.” Francis had $5,600 and bet $2,000. He got it RIGHT.

Francis finished the round with $7,600. Abby was next with $3,400 and Peter was last with $3,200.

Peter got the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy in “Book Subtitles.” He chose to risk the entire $3,600 he had. He nailed it, jumping up to second place.

A wrong answer from Francis, and two more right answers from Peter in “Book Subtitles,” and he now had the lead. That’s what happens when they’ve got your category. Abby soon moved up when they moved over to her category: “Dancing with the Stars Winners,” at first anyway. Francis snatched up the last two clues, and he was back in the lead. That’s what happens when you get the higher money clues right!

Francis had a $1,800 lead over Abby who had a $200 lead over Peter when he found the second Daily Double in “Turkey Day.” Francis bet $4,000 of his $16,000. He got it bringing his score to $20,000.

No one knew the last clue so that remained Francis’ final score. Abby went into Final Jeopardy with $14,200 and Peter had $14,000.

None of the contestants appeared to be sure they were right and NONE of them were.

“What is $78.00”

We just have to say someone has a lot of time on their hands to even think this one up. LOL. And we were wondering if any of contestants would include the Jefferson bill. Do you think it is fair that it was included?

“Today, it is rarely seen in circulation, and as a result the production of the note is the lowest of U.S. paper money: under 1% of all notes currently produced are $2 bills. This comparative scarcity in circulation, coupled with a lack of public awareness that the bill is still in circulation, has also inspired urban legends and, on a few occasions, created problems for people trying to use the bill to make purchases.” wikipedia

Peter bet everything he had, writing down $76.00, so he ended up with bupkis.

Abby bet $13,199. She also wrote down $76.00. She landed in second place with $1,001.

Francis made it unanimous, coming up with $76.00. He bet $8,401, bringing his score down to $11,599, more than enough for him to win and become our first 2-day champion since October 31st. Go Francis! His 2-day total is $40,000 and let us not forget to point out: Francis still would have won even if their answer had been acceptable.
