Final Jeopardy: Movie Comedies (10-29-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/29/2013) in the category “Movie Comedies” was:

The hero of this 1993 comedy says he’s “been stabbed, shot, poisoned, frozen, hung, electrocuted & burned.”

New champ Molly Kossoff won $11,100 yesterday. She’s back today to pit her skills against these two players: Marge Lindblom, from Larchmont, NY; and Sean Kram, from Edmonds, WA.

Sean found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Deep Inside of Me.” He was in the lead with $3,800, $1,200 ahead of Molly in second place. He bet $1,200 and he was RIGHT.

Sean finished in the lead with $7,400. Molly was second with $4,600 and Marge was last with $3,400.

Marge found the first Daily Double in “Riding on the Metro.” She was now in the lead with $11,800, $2,000 ahead of Molly in second place. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.

Sean finished in the lead with $16,700. Molly was next with $14,200 and Marge was in third place with $11,000.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “GROUNDHOG DAY”?

“TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities. But on his way out of town, Phil is caught in a giant blizzard, which he failed to predict, and finds himself stuck in small-town hell. Just when things couldn’t get worse, they get worse; Phil wakes the next morning to find it’s Groundhog Day all over again… and again… and again. Groundhog Day was cheered by critics as Bill Murray’s best movie ever.” (Groundhog Day on Amazon)

Marge had an incomplete response that began with “Franken.” She lost her $4,000 bet and finished with $7,000.

Molly got it right, adding $12,000. She finished with $26,200.

Sean also got it right. He bet $11,701 so he finished with $28,401 and won the game.

So Sean Kram is the new Jeopardy! champ and today was the only appearance of the Alex Trebek fingernails sported by Molly.

@John, LOL. guess it’s right up there with last July when Trebek said his favorite dwarf was Sleazy. He’s getting to be a dirty old man.

THANK YOU! that’s exactly how i felt. after all, it’s a family program. how do you explain to your 6 year old what a “cougar cruise” is????? (the 10 year old “kids” know already anyway….)

I read your comments earlier, John, but didn’t have a chance to respond then. I agree that Alex’s reaction was off the wall. Did he think no one would have known the answer unless they went on a ‘cougar’ cruise or was it just because the answer made Marge giggle a bit too much?

I agree it should have been edited out.

…and as a p.s. a big F for the editing crew. as much as i like alex, this “joke” was not in the best of taste and should have landed cut on the studio floor.

am i the only one who thinks alex overstepped his “quota” on being funny today????? when he -even in jest- asked marge about the “cougar cruise” that was imo an insult, since marge is not 20, but not 70 either. the general public would consider her to be of “cougar age”.she was lady enough to take the high road and smile at an -at least- awkward attempt to be funny. as you can see from my name, i am not a woman, so i wonder how many women in marge’s age group felt at least somewhat insulted. your bad, alex!!
