Final Jeopardy: The Caribbean (10-22-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/22/2013) in the category “The Caribbean ” was:

Pico Duarte & Lago Enriquillo in this country 650 miles from Florida are the highest & lowest points in the Caribbean.

New champ Bill Tolany won $15,700 yesterday, and the title he will be defending against these two players today: Rose Adams, from Flint, MI; and Arne Lunde, from Los Angeles, CA.

Bill found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Clash of Symbols.” He was in third place with $2,200, $1,400 less than Rose in the lead. After Trebek pointed out that Rose and Arne were ahead of him “but not by too much,” he made in a true Daily Double, saying Alex Trebek goaded him into it. He couldn’t come up with a guess, so he was WRONG.

Arne and Rose finished in a tie for the lead with $3,600 each. Bill was in second place with $400.

Rose found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “Welcome to the Jungle.” She was in the lead with $7,200, $2,400 ahead of Bill in second place. She bet $3,000, but drew a blank so she was WRONG.

Bill found the last Daily Double in “A Prince of a Guy.” Now in the lead with $6,000, he was $1,800 ahead of Rose in second place. He bet $3,000 and he was RIGHT.

Bill finished in the lead with $8,600. Rose was next with $5,400 and Arne was in third place with $3,200.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC?

Pico Duarte, in the Cordillera Central mountain range, has an elevation of 10,164 feet. Lago Enriquillo, falling 148 feet below sea level, is not just the lowest point in the Caribbean, but the lowest point on any island nation. Watch out for the Americana crocodiles.

Arne wrote down “Jamaica.” He lost everything he bet, which was everything he had.

Rose had “Puerto Rico.” She lost $1,001, finishing with $4,399.

Bill got it right and added $2,200 to win the game with a total of $10,800. He remains the champ and his 2-day total is $26,500.

Trebek kept the “goaded him” gag going throughout the show. Expect to hear it again if Bill gets a Daily Double tomorrow!

We’d love to tell you how far Jamaica and Puerto Rico are from Florida, but have no idea what points they were calculating from and to.

one of the examples why you should bet everything as second placed contestant.had rose been right and bet everything she would have been co-champion.
as far as the missing clues from time to time: especially when you have long clues (with video etc) trebek should pick up the pace. the missing clues could well change the outcome of the game, especially if a dd is not revealed. they should figure out a way to have ALL clues revealed. but i guess the advertising $$$ art more important…
