Final Jeopardy: Academy Awards (10-1-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/1/2013) in the category “The Academy Awards” was:

With 3 each, “On the Waterfront” is tied with this film & its sequel for most Best Supporting Actor nominations.

New champ Fidelito Cortes didn’t get the FJ yesterday, but he did get $20,000 in his first win. Today he is up against these two players: Elisabeth Houlik, from Allentown, PA; and Rich Hansen, from Chicago, IL.

Elisabeth found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Mapping the NFL” before the first break. In second place with $800, she was $200 behind Rich’s lead. Foregoing the temptation to make an extra $400, she made it a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT.

James Caan (Sonny Corleone), Robert Duvall (Tom Hagen) and Al Pacino (Michael Corleone) were all nominated for Best Supporting Actor for their work in the 1972 film. In the 1974 sequel, Pacino got a nomination for his same role. Michael V. Gazzi (Frankie Pentangeli) and Lee Strasberg (Hyman Roth) were also nominated.

Best Supporting Actor nominations for 1954’s “On the Waterfront” were Rod Steiger (Charley Malloy), Lee J. Cobb (Johnny Friendly) and Karl Malden (Father Barry).

Elisabeth wrote down “The Lord of the Ring.” She lost her $2,500 bet and finished with $1,500.

Rich got it right, adding $2,755 to finish with $9,155.

Fidelito also got it. He bet $1,000 so he nailed his second win with $25,000, a little better payday than yesterday. His 2-day total is $45,000.
