Today is the start of the Teen Tournament and these three teens are on hand to help kick it off: Irene Vasquez an 8th grader from Houston, TX; Kelton Ellis, a junior from Macon, GA and Lila Anderson, a junior from Minnetonka, MN.

Lila found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “State of the Mall.” She was in a tie for second place with Kelton. They both had $1,400, $400 less than Irene in the lead. She made it a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT.

WHO IS ROBERT E. LEE?

Stories vary about exactly who Robert E. Lee said these words to. The person is either just called a scout, or is identified as Channing M. Smith, an officer of Company E, sent by the Gray Ghost, John S. Mosby, to get some official word on whether to surrender or keep fighting.” Lee: The Last Years.

Lila bet it all and doubled her score to $4,800.

Irene only bet $3,000 so she finished with $15,000.

Kelton also bet it all, winning the game with $24,200 and making him the very first semi-finalist.

Irene’s score, as Alex Trebek pointed out, will undoubtedly put her in good standing for a Wild Card spot, and we’ll start keeping track of that tomorrow.
