Final Jeopardy: Baseball Stadiums (1-2-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (1/2/2013) in the category “Baseball Stadiums” was:

This major league’s baseball team’s current stadium was built for a 20th century Olympics.

Current champ Paula Menasche has a 3-day total of $55,100. Today she is facing competition from “the J’s,” Alex Trebek’s collective name for today’s new players: Julie Reynolds, from Waterville, OH; and Joey Gutmann, from New York, NY.

Joey found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Capital City Churches.” He was in second place with $1,400, half of Paula’s lead. He bet it all and he was RIGHT.

The High Kirk of St. Giles, where John Knox was minister.

Joey finished in the lead with $3,400. Paula was second with $2,800 and Julie was last with $1,200.

Joey found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double in “The Quotable Keats.” He was in the lead with $9,800, $3,800 more than Julie in second place. Joey knew he didn’t know no Keats so he only bet $200. He gamely took a guess with “We come and we go,” but that was WRONG (but he obviously had heard of the quote because he mouthed it when Alex read the right answer).

In “Ode on a Grecian Urn”, these 5 words precede “that is all ye know on earth. And all ye need to know.”

Julie found the last Daily Double in “The 6 Simple Machines.” She was in second place with $8,000, $2,000 less than Joey’s lead. She bet $2,000, but went totally blank so she was WRONG.

It’s hard to move just the post of a door knob, but put the knob on and it’s now this simple machine known as the “wheel and this”.

Joey finished in the lead with $10,000. Julie was next with $6,000 and Paula was in third place with $2,800.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO ARE THE ATLANTA BRAVES?

Turner Field was the “Home of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games: Olympic Stadium, built just south of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, was retrofitted into a baseball-only, open-air, natural grass facility between September 1996 and April 1997.” (Official Site of the Atlanta Braves: Turner Field History)

Paula got it right and doubled her money to finish with $5,600.

Julie also got it right. She bet $4,005, finishing with $10,005.

Joey wrote down the L.A. Dodgers. He lost $2,001 so he wound up in second place with $7,999.

Julie Reynolds bet exactly what she would need to win if Joey bet nothing and got it wrong and that paid off. She’s the first new Jeopardy! champ of the year.

Under stood. The team no longer exists but the stadium is still there and it was built for the Olympics.. The question stated “current” stadium not “current” team. I don’t know too much about jeopardy but I would assume questions (answers) had to be specific.

@Catman It’s not a current stadium. The Expos no longer exist.
