Final Jeopardy: Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Final Jeopardy question (4/9/2012) in the category “The Hollywood Walk of Fame” was:
His widow Maria Elena and Gary Busey were on hand when his star was dedicated outside Capitol Records in 2011.
New champ Bing Huo returned today after winning $15,801 last Friday. Today’s new players are: Anne Raybon from Asheville, NCĀ and Doug Lloyd, from Charlton, MA.
Bing found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Paul Revere.” He had $3,000, $200 less than Anne and $1,200 less than Doug. He decided on a true Daily Double. After all, that’s how he got to be champ in the first place. He was RIGHT.
Revere also made glasses and surgical instruments, but his artistry in this material was the focus of his professional life. show
Bing finished in the lead with $6,000 thanks to that true Daily Double. Doug had $5,000 and Anne had $4,800.
Bing found the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy! in “San Francisco.” He was already nailing the category and now had the lead with $8,400, $3,200 more than Anne in second place. He bet $4,000 and he was RIGHT again.
Frommer’s says this intersection ‘retains much of the hippie-bohemian culture of its heyday.’ show
Anne got the last clue which was the second Daily Double in “I’m Gonna Hurl.” She was in third place with $11,200, $5,000 less than Doug and $6,800 less than Bing. She started to bet $8,000 but decided that was too much and went with $6,000. and she was RIGHT, and in second place, though she would have been in the lead if she stuck with the $8,000.
Wearing a kilt is mandatory in the Highland games event called “Tossing” this, often a 17-foot long fir pole. show
Bing finished in the lead with $12,600. Lisa still had $7,900 and Joey still had $7,600.
NONE of the players got Final Jeopardy! right even though we thought all of the players would get it right. But apparently not everyone watches rock ‘n roll bio flicks or even hears of them. We also thought Gary Busey was most famous for this role and that gave it away.
WHO IS BUDDY HOLLY?
Gary Busey was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Holly in the 1978 film “The Buddy Holly Story.” Holly’s wife, Maria Elena, was portrayed by Maria Richwine. Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers and Peter Asher (who came pretty close to being Paul McCartney’s brother-in-law once upon a time) of Peter and Gordon were also at the Walk of Fame ceremony held on what would have been Holly’s 75th birthday. Holly died on February 3, 1959 in a plane crash that also claimed the lives of Ritchie Valens and J.P. (The Big Bopper) Richardson.
Doug wrote down “Valens” and that cost him $3,800. He finished with $12,400.
Anne wrote down “Ice T.” Go figure. She lost $16,201 and ended up with $999.
Bing wrote down “Sinatra.” He lost $16,201 and wound up with $1,599.
So Doug is our new champ. He was the closest anyway and his $12,400 take wasn’t too bad either thanks to his Final Jeopardy! low bet strategy.
